HARP bearings for railways
ENERGY-EFFICIENT BEARING UNITS WITH EXTENDED SERVICE LIFE
A new generation of energy-efficient cassette bearing units was developed specially for conditions of “space 1520” (a railway track gauge of 1520 mm) and distinguished with an increased overhaul life (800 000 km – 1 000 000 km), optimized profiling, microgeometry and heat treatment:
• Cassette units for freight and passenger car axle boxes – CRU Duplex and TBU 1520
• Cassette units for engine locomotive axle boxes – CRU HARP
• Closed units for locomotive traction motors – CRВ HARP
BENEFITS OF HARP BEARINGS FOR THE RAILWAY INDUSTRY
— Increased overhaul life – in 2,5 times (over 800 000 km).
— Increased reliability of axle boxes.
— Increased reliability of the end mounting (in CRU Duplex – due to rings with boards).
— Dynamic axial force transmitted to the end mounting is reduced in 4 times.
— Unique Klüberplex HARP lubricant, developed jointly with the German company Klüber Lubrication (Freudenberg Group), is the only one which in addition to a record high resistance to wear and contact fatigue surface failure, low torque resistance and, has a low-temperature stability of main characteristics up to -60°С.
— Significant reduction in labour intensity and reduction of installation costs related to formation of wheel sets, reduction of installation time, production areas, number of personnel and energy costs.
— Possibility of mounting/dismantling using available equipment: duplex bearings do not require new special equipment.

CRU DUPLEX for axle boxes of freight and passenger cars
The double roller bearing is radial with short cylindrical rollers and washers.Double radial roller bearing with short cylindrical rollers and shields. CRU Duplex is designed for installation in axle boxes of freight cars with axle load of 23,5 ton-force and pedestal opening of 320 mm, as well as in the axle boxes of passenger cars.
CRU HARP for axle boxes of locomotives
Double-row radial roller bearing with short cylindrical rollers, shields and seals. Designed for installation in axle boxes of locomotives.
TBU 1520 for freight and passenger cars
Bearing double-row with cassette-type tapered rollers.
Cartridge double-row bearing with tapered rollers. Designed for installation in axles/adapters of freight cars with axle load of 23,5 ton-force and pedestal opening of 260 mm, as well as in the axle boxes of passenger cars.
CRB HARP for locomotive traction motors
Cylindrical roller bearings for rolling stock with outer diameter from 200 to 400 mm.
Applications: axle boxes of freight and passenger cars, electric trains; axle boxes, engines, generators and other machines.
DEVELOPMENT
The basic fundamental research and development was carried out by the Joint Engineering Center (JEC), part of the UPEC Industrial Group. Design implementation is carried out by the Ukrainian Bearing Industry Design and Technology Bureau (UKTBPP), also part of the UPEC IG. Development of special lubricants and high-efficiency cassette sealing systems are carried out jointly with the well-known German companies Klüber Lubrication, Simrit which are part of the Freudenberg Group. The All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Railway Transport (VNIIZhT) and All-Russian Research Institute of Bearing Industry (VNIIPP) also took part in the development.
